Predicting Texas’ next transfer portal addition after Ryan Watts
Jacob Cowing, WR
The most recent entrant among wide receivers to the transfer portal that could be appealing to Sark and the Longhorns is the former UTEP Miners breakout redshirt sophomore star, Jacob Cowing. As one of the most statistically impressive wide receivers in the FBS this season, Cowing is a portal target that the Longhorns should realistically consider.
With how Texas was able to address their positional needs along the offensive line ahead of, and during, the first signing period last week, wide receiver is definitely the biggest need at this point on this side of the ball. Texas needs help at wide receiver, and it’s likely not going to come from the 2022 recruiting class.
The transfer portal makes the most sense as to where Texas could turn to upgrade the receiving corps this offseason. And Cowing is actually someone that could be a nice fit in the Sark offense.
The elusive 5-foot-11 and 170-pound third-year wideout is good in the open field and could be a real threat coming out of the slot. While I’m not saying that he’s as good as Xavier Worthy, Cowing could play a role similar to him.
Cowing definitely proved himself with the Miners this season. He registered more than 1,300 yards on 69 receptions (good for nearly 20 yards per catch) and seven touchdown catches. Cowing definitely become one of the brightest stars at wideout in the Group of Five this season.
There is already some smoke that fans think will come from Texas in relation to the pursuit of Cowing out of the transfer portal. I would put that on pause for a second. But it would clearly make sense for Texas to target him in the portal soon this offseason.
