Most indicators are pointing to Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian not being able to find an official replacement for the former wide receivers coach Andre Coleman ahead of the turn of the calendar year. If nothing else, it doesn’t look like Texas will find an official hire to replace Coleman for their wide receivers coach job opening until after the Christmas holiday.

Yet, there are some signs pointing to the fact that Sark and the Longhorns could have a leading candidate in place as to who will be their next wide receivers coach. One of the first names to pop up in this coaching search was the current Pitt Panthers wide receivers coach and former William & Mary Tribe offensive coordinator, Brennan Marion.

This former Tulsa Golden Hurricane standout wide receiver already has a pretty established track record under his belt. This is part of the reason why the Longhorns likely have Marion at the top of their big board among candidates to become their next wide receivers coach.

According to a report from Orangebloods this week (paid content), Marion appears to be the leading candidate to be the hire to replace Coleman. This is one of multiple reports of late indicating that Marion is the top name in consideration for this job opening, which also came from a piece from Inside Texas this week (part of the On3 Network, paid content).

Texas football reportedly has found a top candidate to be the next WR coach in Pitt’s Brennan Marion

The hunch that I’m taking away here is that Marion and the Longhorns have traction in their communication of late, but this could be a process that takes another couple of weeks. In all likelihood, Marion is going to wait until after Pitt plays the Michigan State Spartans in the Peach Bowl on Dec. 30 to make a decision on where his future lies.

There are going to be other opportunities that come Marion’s way, but this might be one of the most appealing. I would imagine that if there’s not another offensive coordinator/head coaching gig that comes Marion’s way from a solid Group of Five or a Power Five program early this offseason, that the Texas gig would be the one he likely goes with.

But that is still taking in some degree of speculation as to Marion’s situation moving forward. This is a situation that is likely going to take a few days, at the very least, to develop any further. I would anticipate more movement coming out of Marion’s camp after the Peach Bowl concludes.

Texas has already found a new positional coach for one spot on the staff early this offseason, with Tashard Choice replacing the former running backs coach Stan Drayton. The difference here is the fact that Drayton left to take a head coaching job and Coleman was ousted as wide receivers coach after three years at the helm in Austin.
