Big 12 Football: USC trolls OU with post on TikTok
A move that shook the Big 12 football landscape in a major way took place late last month as the Oklahoma Sooners saw their head coach leave for apparently greener pastures. The now-former Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley bolted from Norman, OK, last month to take the same job with the USC Trojans in the PAC-12.
Riley wound up replacing the former USC head coach Clay Helton. This was one of the major groundbreaking moves of the fall before the offseason even began for the Sooners. Riley bolted for USC less than a full 24 hours after Oklahoma had fallen short in Bedlam at the hands of the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
USC went all out to hire Riley, including throwing one of the most lucrative head coaching contracts in modern college football history his way.
And it shows how much USC is committed to Riley with how much they offered and their commitment to success on the recruiting trail right away. USC is also very active on social media since hiring Riley as their next head coach.
Big 12 football is still feeling the impact of Lincoln Riley leaving OU for USC
This included a post on their official TikTok page around the Christmas holiday that was intended to troll Oklahoma. USC captioned this post, showing Riley in the Trojans gear, with “unrealistic things we want for Christmas”, followed up by “for Oklahoma fans to leave us alone”. That obviously implied that Oklahoma fans are still very salty about Riley leaving for USC.
Riley left Oklahoma after five years at the helm as their head coach. He found plenty of success, including winning Big 12 Championships in each season with him as the bench boss up through the 2020 campaign.
On the Oklahoma side, they replaced Riley with the former Clemson Tigers defensive coordinator and an ex-OU associate head coach Brent Venables. It will be interesting to see what type of impact Venables has on the Sooners.
For the time being, the feeling is still settling in as it pertains to how Oklahoma and USC will both be impacted by the coaching carousel that is spinning rapidly before the turn of the calendar year. There is a lot going on around the Big 12 landscape right now, and Riley leaving Oklahoma is a big reason why.
