Former Texas S B.J. Foster in contact with Mississippi State
There are already a number of former Texas football players that have their names in the NCAA Transfer Portal early on in the o168ffseason. Among the former defensive Texas players in the transfer portal, one of the most significant names is the former elite five-star recruit and senior safety B.J. Foster.
Throughout much of the 2021 campaign, it was clear that Foster wasn’t a great fit with the defensive scheme under co-defensive coordinators Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate. That meant it wasn’t much of a surprise when he put his name in the transfer portal, which happened back on Dec. 10.
With how fast most of the more notable players in the transfer portal have found their next landing spot early this offseason, it is likely that Foster could soon find his next home. But there isn’t really a clear landing spot sticking out for him as of yet.
What is clear is that Foster very likely isn’t coming back to the Forty Acres almost no matter what. He could very well land with another Power Five school that needs help in the defensive backfield in 2022.
Former Texas football S B.J. Foster reportedly in contact with Mississippi State out of the portal
This is where the Mississippi State Bulldogs could come into play. According to a report from 247Sports (paid content) recently, Mississippi State was already in contact with Foster out of the transfer portal. This was as of mid-December. Given the fact that Foster still has yet to find his next landing spot out of the portal, Mississippi State could be a viable destination.
Mississippi State was also reportedly after the former Ohio State Buckeyes redshirt freshman cornerback Ryan Watts in the portal of late. But Watts would commit to the Longhorns last week.
This could mean that Foster is an even bigger priority now for the Bulldogs if they’re still seeking help in the secondary out of the portal entering the offseason. That has yet to be known where Foster ranks among Mississippi State’s priorities in the portal, but if there’s already contact this fit could make sense for the former blue-chip safety recruit.
What Foster brings to the table out of the transfer portal this offseason is 168 career combined tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, five interceptions, 11 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and no fumble recoveries. He will have one year of eligibility remaining out of the transfer portal in 2022.
