After losing the former blue-chip forward and freshman Jaylon Tyson to the NCAA Transfer Portal earlier this week, new head coach Chris Beard and the Texas basketball program have a shot to recover well via the recruiting trail. Texas now looks to have some traction with the former Northwestern Wildcats four-star point guard commit and Northfield Mount Hermon (MA) product Rowan Brumbaugh.

Texas is actually the most recent school to send an offer out to Brumbaugh. He received his offer from Texas back on July 1, 2021. But he would later commit to Northwestern less than two months later, specifically on Aug. 30.

A door could be opening, though, for Beard and the Longhorns with Brumbaugh just at the right time. He de-committed from Northwestern on Dec. 27, making room for Texas to potentially get more guard depth in their 2022 recruiting class.

Texas basketball gets a trio of Crystal Ball Predictions for 4-Star PG Rowan Brumbaugh

The three most recent expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions in for Brumbaugh now have his commitment projected to land with Texas. There are nine Crystal Ball Predictions in total for Brumbaugh as of the afternoon of Dec. 29. But the three that came in since his de-commitment from Northwestern are all in Texas’ favor.

A report from Horns247 on Dec. 29 (paid content) indicates that a commitment from Brumbaugh is expected soon. That could be as soon as the next couple of weeks given that he might want to sign his National Letter of Intent in the near future.

Texas looks to be in a good position to now capitalize on the recruitment of Brumbaugh. Beard and the Longhorns made a big push for his commitment after offering him back in July. But those efforts went all for naught before.

Now, Texas could strike when the iron is hot with Brumbaugh. It would be huge for the Longhorns to be able to get a commitment out of Brumbaugh. That is especially true given how much talent and potential is already present in the Longhorns 2022 class.

Brumbaugh would be another blue-chip prospect in the 2022 class if the Longhorns can capitalize on this opportunity. He ranks as the nation’s No. 85 2022 high school prospect, No. 11 point guard, and the No. 2 prospect out of Massachusetts (247Sports Composite).
