With the 2022 Texas football recruiting class starting to wrap up for this cycle, more and more focus will start to get placed on the 2023 class. Texas has a few top targets remaining ahead of National Signing Day in the 2022 class, namely the elite five-star Bowie interior offensive lineman Devon Campbell.

It is worth looking into how the big board is starting to form together for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns 2023 recruiting class ahead of the turn of the calendar year. Texas only has one commitment in the 2023 class at the moment.

There are some targets of the Longhorns 2023 class that this coaching staff is starting to find some real traction with, though. One emerging target of the 2023 class that is starting to look like a soon-to-be potential commitment is the three-star Sam Houston (TX) tight end Lafayette Kaiuway.

This Arlington, TX, product is shaping up to be one of the top tight end targets on the board for the Longhorns 2023 class. He was on campus for a visit in Austin a few weeks ago too. By most accounts, that visit with Texas went really well for Kaiuway.

A report from 247Sports (paid content) a couple of weeks ago noted that Kaiuway likes the feeling he gets when he visits the Forty Acres and that everyone with the program is very welcoming. That report also noted that special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks is already moving to make Kaiuway a top priority for this 2023 class.

The visit that Kaiuway had with the Longhorns this fall was his second since the summer. Banks is seemingly doing a great job as his top recruiter thus far, and that could turn into a potential commitment before too long.

Some of the other top schools to watch in pursuit of the commitment of Kaiuway at this point are the TCU Horned Frogs, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Baylor Bears, and Texas Tech Red Raiders. He’s already noted that schools in-state like Texas and TCU, and then one out-of-state school in Oklahoma State, are shaping up to be near the top of his list early on.

The lone commitment in the Longhorns 2023 class at the moment is four-star Arlington-Seguin defensive back, Jamel Johnson. Texas is sure to see more action soon on the recruiting trail with their 2023 class, though, and Kaiuway is definitely a name to watch moving forward.
