It seems like head coach Steve Sarkisian and his coaching staff jumped straight ahead to putting an emphasis on the 2024 Texas football recruiting class instead of 2023. But if it yields the type of results that it looks like it can early on, there’s no faulting that type of focus. Texas has already landed their first commitment in the 2024 class and it sounds like it might not be too long before the next one arrives.

Sark and the Longhorns got their first commitment in the 2024 class last week with Aledo cornerback Jaden Allen giving his pledge to Texas. Jaden is the little brother of 2022 four-star Texas safety commit and fellow Aledo product BJ Allen Jr.

Texas is clearly establishing a lot of momentum in the defensive backfield right now on the recruiting trail. Even their lone commit in the 2023 class at the moment is a defensive back in four-star Arlington-Seguin cornerback/safety Jamel Johnson.

Yet, Texas appears to be riding this wave of momentum on the recruiting trail with the 2024 class as far as it will go. And can you blame them?

Texas football has a rising 2024 target in Daingerfield WR/ATH Aeryn Hampton

A new target that looks to be emerging on the radar of the Longhorns 2024 class of late is a Baylor Bears commit and Daingerfield wide receiver/athlete Aeryn Hampton. This in-state 5-foot-10 and 175-pound athlete committed to Baylor back on Dec. 8.

But it looks like Texas could be working on flipping his commitment after landing their first pledge in the 2024 class last week. According to a report from Inside Texas (part of the On3 Network, paid content), the commitment that Hampton has to Baylor might not be all that solid. And this is something that Texas could clearly take advantage of if this is the case.

Hampton is very obviously active on social media still since his original commitment to Baylor last month. If Texas can get enough sway for him to really consider opening his recruitment back up, that could be great for this 2024 class.

Texas actually offered Hampton prior to his commitment to Baylor. His Texas offer originally came in on Nov. 6. Texas also was one of the first schools to offer Hampton, before Baylor even sent one his way.
