No, Jordan Addison probably isn’t going to come to Texas

Among the most hotly discussed potential NCAA Transfer Portal targets for the Texas football program of late is the Pitt Panthers breakout sophomore wide receiver Jordan Addison. After having an insane 2021 campaign with Pitt under their now-former wide receivers coach Brennan Marion, Addison is definitely one of the bigger stars out there at the position.

Marion left Pitt to take the role of wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator with the Longhorns this offseason. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian parted ways with second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman a couple of weeks ago. Marion subsequently replaced him in the same role, along with passing game coordinator added to his job title and responsibility.

There is a vibe going on around the Longhorns fan base that Marion could bring Addison with him from Pitt. Clearly, that would mean that Addison puts his name in the transfer portal and then commits to Texas this offseason.

Texas football probably not getting Jordan Addison from Pitt

While this sounds great in theory, I don’t believe it’s anything that will amount to something for the Longhorns in relation to Addison this offseason. Addison still looks like he will stay put at Pitt, despite Marion leaving for the wide receivers coach job opening with the Longhorns.

A piece from Orangebloods this weekend (paid content) notes that the likelihood of Addison leaving Pitt for Texas isn’t very good at this point. Given the fact that there aren’t many signs that Addison will even put his name in the transfer portal this offseason in the first place, this hunch from Orangebloods seems to line up.

There are also some moves that Pitt made in the transfer portal this offseason to try and keep the offense chugging along in 2022. That included adding the former USC Trojans quarterback Kedon Slovis out of the transfer portal to replace the departing Kenny Pickett. And Pitt also added the former Akron standout wide receiver Konata Mumpfield out of the portal early this offseason.

Of course, there can always be the possibility of any player entering the transfer portal in this day and age. And the connection between Marion and Addison was likely a special one. Pitt still has Addison’s top recruiter, Chris Beatty, around on staff as a wide receivers coach after Marion left for Texas. That means there is still a very relevant connection for Addison back to the Pitt coaching staff.

Next. 3 recruits impressed by the hire of Brennan Marion. dark

Texas could be looking for help at the wide receiver position in the transfer portal this offseason. And if a name with the star power of Addison’s pops up in the transfer portal, Texas should obviously be making moves immediately. I just don’t think Addison is going to be the one that Texas can go out and get at wideout in the portal this offseason.
