Even teams that have yet to join the Big 12 officially have fans doing their best to try and troll the Texas football program right now. Texas was the subject of a fan of the Cincinnati Bearcats trying to troll the program during a College Football Playoff game last week.

While Cincinnati was taking on the Alabama Crimson Tide at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, during a College Football Playoff Semifinals game on New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31), a Bearcats fan flashed the “Horns down” hand sign, which was caught live on national television. Social media also caught wind of this on New Year’s Eve.

There were actually multiple Cincinnati fans that would be caught on camera holding up the Horns down hand sign. It seems like Cincinnati fans are catching the spirit of most other Big 12 fan bases in trying to troll the Longhorns no matter the situation.

The Oklahoma Sooners once made it commonplace for their fans to flash the Horns down. And of course, we’re no stranger to seeing the Texas A&M Aggies faithful do the same thing. But those are noted rivals of the Longhorns.

Cincinnati is not.

While Cincinnati is set to join the Big 12 soon, they won’t be dealing with the Longhorns or Sooners in all likelihood. Cincinnati got the invite to join the Big 12 after the news came down that Texas and Oklahoma were going to depart for the SEC.

I guess the spirit is there for the Bearcats faithful, but this doesn’t seem like much of a discussion that Longhorns fans will ever care too much about.

Cincinnati would end up losing to Alabama in this College Football Playoff Semifinals game by the final score of 27-6. It was a special season for the Bearcats as they became the first Group of Five team to ever make it to the College Football Playoff. Cincinnati also took down the Houston Cougars (another team that accepted an invitation to join the Big 12) to win the American Athletic Conference this season.

Texas finished up the 2021 season with a record of 5-7 (3-6 Big 12) following a win in the finale over the Kansas State Wildcats at home on Black Friday. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns will be looking to right the ship in what could be one of the last couple of years in the Big 12 for the program in 2022.
