Another important transfer portal target for the Longhorns to watch this month is the former UAlbany redshirt sophomore edge rusher Jared Verse. As likely the best edge rusher in the transfer portal right now, it would make sense that the Texas coaching staff would want to prioritize the pursuit of Verse.

There are so many programs that have already offered Verse that it’s hard to find where Texas really fits in this mix. I will say that I’m getting a much better feeling about where the Longhorns stand with a transfer portal target like Neyor than I do about their chances with Verse.

The fact that there isn’t really anything public coming out about how Texas is playing any sort of significant role in pursuit of Verse likely isn’t a great sign. Granted, Verse hasn’t released any sort of list of finalist schools, so that doesn’t necessarily mean that Texas is eliminated in his decision-making process.

I would expect a decision from Verse to come by the end of the week. He likely wants to get this process wrapped up soon. And since Verse already took a few visits since entering the transfer portal with the likes of the Miami Hurricanes, Houston Cougars, and Syracuse Orange, among a couple of other schools, it would make sense that one of those would get his commitment.

Texas might get lost in the mix here. But given the lack of a real quantity of offers going out from Texas to potential transfer portal targets so far this offseason, the fact that Verse even got one shows how this staff thinks about him.
