The first road test of Big 12 play has arrived for new head coach Chris Beard and No. 14 Texas basketball on the night of Jan. 4. Texas is set to take on the Kansas State Wildcats early this week after a dominant showing in their Big 12 opener.

Over the weekend, Beard and the Longhorns topped head coach Bob Huggins and a short-handed West Virginia Mountaineers at home at the Frank Erwin Center. The Longhorns topped the Mountaineers in their Big 12 opener by a convincing final score of 74-59.

That was the most thoroughly impressive win of the regular season so far for the Longhorns.

Texas now needs to capitalize on that momentum as they get set to take on another challenging foe in Kansas State. It won’t be easy for Texas to go to Manhattan and get a double-digit win by any means.

But this should still be a winnable game for Texas.

Texas comes into this game with a record of 11-2 (1-0 Big 12) following their win over West Virginia on Jan. 1. Meanwhile, Kansas State comes into this game sporting a record of 8-4 (0-1 Big 12) following their loss to the Oklahoma Sooners on the road on Jan. 1.

Kansas State played the Sooners really close on the road in their conference opener. A second-half rally fell just short for the Wildcats, as they lost by the final score of 71-69.

Moreover, Texas is roughly a six-point favorite over Kansas State in this game. And the ESPN matchup predictor gives the Longhorns a 64.4 percent chance to beat Kansas State.

Here’s a look into three reasons why the Longhorns will dominate Kansas State in the first Big 12 road game of the regular season on Jan. 4.
