It seems like there is already quite the buzz that new running backs coach Tashard Choice is generating for Texas football recruiting. I wouldn’t think that there’s much of an opportunity for Choice to make an impact on the recruiting trail for Texas’ 2022 class. Texas has already locked up a commitment and signed National Letter of Intent from four-star Klein Cain running back Jaydon Blue.

But the impact that Choice could make for the Longhorns 2023 class is definitely worth talking about. The top target for the Longhorns 2023 class at the running back position is clearly the former Texas commit and elite five-star El Campo product Rueben Owens.

There are some other targets that Choice appears to be going after on the recruiting trail right now at the running back position in the Longhorns 2023 class. But one that you can now add to the list is the touted four-star New Caney (TX) running back Kedrick Reescano.

According to a report from Horns247 this week (paid content), the Texas coaching staff is showing a lot of interest in Reescano of late. And it appears that the traction between Texas and Reescano could hit an uptick in the very near future.

I would expect a visit on the books soon if the Texas staff continues to show this level of interest in Reescano.

There is also more smoke coming from Texas’ interest in Reescano. According to a report from Inside Texas on Jan. 5 (paid content), the Longhorns are working their way up with Reescano with their elevated interest of late.

If Texas is going to continue to show more interest in Reescano, they would be slotting themselves with a smaller group of schools that have offered him thus far. But some of the schools that look to be at or near the top of his list stuck around for a while. That includes the likes of the Michigan State Spartans, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and Houston Cougars.

But Texas would have a long way to go with Reescano to make up ground on the likes of Michigan State and Oklahoma State. Michigan State is looking like a potential frontrunner for him. But it also sounds like Oklahoma State sits in a good spot with him.

You would still have to consider running backs like four-stars Javin Simpkins and Cedric Baxter Jr. as top targets at the position for the Longhorns 2023 class ahead of Reescano right now. Owens is still the top target at the position all in all, though. Reescano is still a rising target to note at this point.
