At this point of the 2023 recruiting cycle, the biggest target for the Longhorns at wide receiver has to be considered the highly touted four-star DeSoto product Johntay Cook II. If there’s any target of the Longhorns 2023 class that it really feels like Sark and his staff can get a commitment from in the month of January, it’s Cook.

There looks to be a really solid connection between the Longhorns and Cook. And this is a relationship that the Longhorns started to establish long ago. There is plenty of reason to believe that the momentum that Texas has with Cook will only continue to grow.

In fact, the On3 recruiting prediction machine gives Texas more than a 96 percent chance to eventually land the commitment of Cook. There aren’t any expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions or Rival FutureCasts in yet for Cook. But I do believe that Texas should be considered the frontrunner in his recruitment at this point in time.

The winter months of this offseason will be crucial for Texas to lock in on the commitment of Cook for the summer and/or fall, depending on when he’s planning to announce his decision.

Cook can be a foundational piece of the Longhorns 2023 class. And if Marion can get the connection established with him just after he got hired to replace Andre Coleman as Texas’ wide receivers coach, this should put this program in a great spot with Cook moving forward.
