The most hotly discussed player around the Big 12 football landscape (and college football as a whole) is the Oklahoma Sooners breakthrough freshman quarterback Caleb Williams. After putting his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal last week, Williams immediately became the hottest commodity on the open market.

The first discussion that really came to mind when Williams put his name in the transfer portal was where he could potentially take his talents to next. And a few schools stuck out above the rest.

With former Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley bolting from Norman to take the head coaching job with the USC Trojans, it made sense that Williams would want to follow him. It now looks like that storyline could play out with one recent development in the pursuit of a commitment of Williams out of the transfer portal.

Big 12 football star Caleb Williams set to reportedly visit USC

Williams is now reportedly set to visit USC sometime soon. And it looks like Williams could’ve potentially visited USC as soon as this weekend.

But with how quiet the news is along the Williams front with USC this weekend, I would imagine that the visit will come in the next week or so. And with the idea that Williams could visit both USC and the UCLA Bruins in the next couple of weeks, it would make sense that he knocks out each in the same trip.

The fact that he’s even considering taking a visit to UCLA is a recent development and a good sign for head coach Chip Kelly and the Bruins. UCLA lost the commitment of the former UCF Knights quarterback Dillon Gabriel when he flipped to Oklahoma in the last week.

Getting a commitment from Williams out of the portal would be quite the way for them to recover from losing Gabriel to the Sooners.

Nonetheless, it would make sense for the Trojans to remain a major player in the pursuit of Williams out of the portal. He was recruited by Riley and much of the coaching staff that is now at USC.

With Oklahoma getting a commitment from Gabriel, though, it looks like the odds that Williams returns to Norman are dwindling. Granted, you still can’t rule out that possibility given how wild the news on the transfer portal front has remained so far this offseason.
