At this point of the cycle, the biggest target remaining for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class is clearly the elite five-star Bowie interior offensive lineman Devon Campbell. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood have quite obviously prioritized the recruitment of Campbell more so than anyone else since the Early Signing Period concluded last month.

Campbell is also clearly the most anticipated decision for the Longhorns around National Signing Day 2022. He’s set for a Feb. 3 decision, which is now less than four weeks away. Texas is gearing up for what could be one of the best offensive line hauls in the history of this football program on the recruiting trail.

But the final piece to that puzzle will be landing a commitment from Campbell around the second signing period. The good news here is that it looks like Campbell is still mostly trending in Texas’ favor at this point in time.

Texas football reportedly still the favorite for 5-Star IOL Devon Campbell

According to a report from Inside Texas (part of the On3 Network, paid content) this week, the Longhorns are still considered a “heavy favorite” to land the commitment of Campbell over the rival Oklahoma Sooners.

Campbell did narrow down his list of finalist schools to two last month. Texas and Oklahoma are the only two schools it appears that are hanging around in the race to land a commitment from Campbell.

Yet, it’s good to hear that the Longhorns are apparently keeping some room between them and the Sooners.

It’s also worth noting that every single one of the expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions for Campbell right now projects his commitment to land with Texas. And the Rivals FutureCast has all of their analysts and publishers picking Campbell to commit to Texas.

Most leading indicators are pointing to Campbell eventually announcing a commitment to the Longhorns over the Sooners. But this is one that the Longhorns coaching staff still have to close out with in a strong way as we approach National Signing Day next month.

Texas is now up to 27 signees in the 2022 class after landing a commitment from four-star Bishop Alemany athlete/safety Larry Turner-Gooden on the afternoon of Jan. 8. Including three-star Warren Easton cornerback Ronald Lewis, Texas also has 28 commits in the 2022 class.
