New head coach Chris Beard is on a roll for the Texas basketball program on the recruiting trail of late. Texas has a good trio in the 2022 class right now. There are two five-star prospects committed in the 202 class. And there is some real potential of Texas getting an elite group in the 2023 class with the foundation that Beard and his staff are laying right now.

Beard and the Longhorns have three blue chips committed in the 2022 class. The two five-star commits in the 2022 class for the Longhorns right now are the Dallas-Kimball point guard Arterio Morris and Montverde Academy small forward Dillon Mitchell.

And the lone four-star commit in the Longhorns 2022 class as of the afternoon of Jan. 11 is the former Northwestern Wildcats pledge and Northfield Mount Hermon (MA) point guard Rowan Brumbaugh. The most recent addition to the 2022 class is Brumbaugh.

Who could be the first commit of the 2022 calendar year for Texas basketball?

He’s also the lone pledge in the Longhorns 2022 class that has yet to sign his National Letter of Intent of the three prospects in the mix. But that was to be expected with the first signing period passing by last fall. It shouldn’t be too long before Brumbaugh is signed in this 2022 class.

Moreover, there might not be much left on the board for the Longhorns 2022 class after the turn of the calendar year. Three blue-chip signees/commits in the 2022 class would be a healthy number, especially given potential activity in the NCAA Transfer Portal next offseason.

The 2023 class should have most of the action on the recruiting trail for Beard and his staff after the turn of the calendar year.

And with that in mind, here’s a look into the prediction of who the first commit could be for Texas men’s hoops in 2022.
