One of the hottest prospects on the board right now for the Longhorns 2023 class is the talented and potent four-star McKinney shooting guard Ja’Kobe Walter. Texas looks to be sitting in a really good spot right now with Walter as one of his top schools.

According to a report from 247Sports (paid content), Walter recently named a group of top five finalist schools that included Texas. The other four schools he mentioned among his finalists were the Gonzaga Bulldogs, Auburn Tigers, Oregon Ducks, and Baylor.

Texas should be able to hold an edge here, maybe along with the Bears, in terms of having the geographic proximity advantage to home for him. Texas and Baylor could be the only two schools remaining among his top group at this point that are in-state.

This feels like a recruitment that Texas could lockdown on before too long if Beard and his staff really hit their stride in pursuit of a commitment from Walter. He could be a key part of the foundation of the 2023 class, and it looks like there is plenty of momentum in the Longhorns’ favor this month.

With Walter and Lewis being two of the top prospects on the figurative big board for the Longhorns 2023 class, it would be tough to see Beard and his staff whiff completely at this position. Shooting guard should be a staple of the Longhorns 2023 class, and it should all start out with one of these two potentially elite talents.
