There’s so much conversation going on around Texas football recruiting right now, whether it be with the 2022 and/or 2023 classes or the NCAA Transfer Portal. Texas and second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian are sitting in a good position right now with plenty of momentum on the recruiting trail less than one month ahead of National Signing Day to round out the 2022 class.

Sark and the Longhorns staff need to continue to push to make waves on the recruiting trail with some of their top high school prospects, though. And most of that effort would likely fall to the 2023 class right now.

Who could be the first 2023 Texas football commit of this calendar year?

News on the recruiting trail is likely going to pick up soon too. That is especially true in relation to the Longhorns 2023 class. Texas is soon to host some of their top targets on the recruiting trail for the 2023 class during their Junior Day next weekend. There’s plenty to discuss concerning this group at the moment.

Before Junior Day arrives for the Longhorns, it will be important to note who could join the 2023 class during this wave of excitement around the program in general. That is especially the case after some of the recent coaching staff additions that are looking to bring some excitement to the table this offseason.

And Texas really needs this excitement surrounding the program following the disappointing showing during the 2021 season.

With that in mind, here’s a look into three potential names to watch as to who the first commit of the New Year could be for the Longhorns 2023 class.
