There’s not only plenty of movement right now for the Texas football program in recruiting targets out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, but there is also movement on the trail among high school targets too. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff are busy doing three things at once right now a couple of months ahead of the start of spring ball.

Sark and the Longhorns staff are trying to round out the 2022 class ahead of National Signing Day next month, get off to a good start with the 2023 class, and get some talent at positions of need out of the transfer portal, all at the same time. It looks like this process is going well, though, by most considerations.

Texas is even getting some positive news off of the recruiting trail as it pertains to the 2023 class. It looks like Texas is now trending to land the commitment of the touted four-star Cy Ranch (TX) edge rusher/strong-side defensive end Ashton Porter.

The most recent expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction for Porter projects his commitment to go to Texas. And the Rivals FutureCast has all of their analysts and publishers picking Porter to commit to Texas.

Even the On3 recruiting prediction machine gives Texas nearly a 99 percent chance to land the commitment of Porter at the moment over the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Defensive line coach Bo Davis did a solid job laying the groundwork for success in the recruitment of Porter thus far. He’s made Porter one of the bigger priorities for the 2023 Longhorns class along the defensive front. And that could pay off before too long in the form of one of the first commitments in this 2023 class.

Porter has also remained active on social media in the last few months posting about him at Texas among other things related to the Longhorns. Davis and the Longhorns had traction with Porter for a good while now. And depending on when a decision officially comes down from Porter, good news could be right around the corner for Texas.

Some other top schools to watch in the race to land a commitment from Porter include the Arkansas Razorbacks, Baylor Bears, and Arizona State. If a frontrunner had to be named right now, though, it looks like Texas might have to be it.

The lone commitment right now in the Longhorns 2023 class is the four-star Arlington-Seguin defensive back Jamel Johnson. Porter would be a nice second addition to the Longhorns 2023 class if he announces a decision in favor of Texas before too long.
