While I do firmly believe that Mathis and Sanders are more of an important priority for the Longhorns right now given the need to add more capable players to the defensive front, wide receiver is still a worthy need too. Texas does have a standout duo returning at wide receiver between to-be sophomore Xavier Worthy and redshirt junior Jordan Whittington in 2022.

Yet, it would obviously make a big difference for the Longhorns to be able to bring the type of talent in such as the former Oklahoma elite five-star recruit and freshman wide receiver Mario Williams. This standout 5-foot-10 and 190-pound Florida native would add a lot of pop to a Longhorns’ offense that could use more around quarterback Quinn Ewers, Worthy, and running back Bijan Robinson.

Texas already hosted Williams on an official visit in Austin this week. And there were multiple factors that went into the visit of Williams to the Forty Acres. First and foremost, it looks like NIL money will be an important aspect of Williams’ recruitment. It’s not just going where former Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley is to join him and quarterback Caleb Williams that matters for M. Williams.

A couple of other factors that look to be keeping Texas around with the USC Trojans in the conversation to land Williams out of the portal are the Longhorns baseball program and the proximity to home. Texas is obviously closer to Florida than USC is for Williams. So that is something to watch here.
