Texas basketball vs. Iowa State: Betting odds, TV, streaming, pick
One of the biggest games of the regular season to date is here for No. 21 ranked Texas basketball against the No. 15 ranked Iowa State Cyclones on the afternoon of Jan. 15. Texas and new head coach Chris Beard will be looking to move the record in Big 12 play to 4-1 if they can upset Iowa State on the road in Hilton Coliseum this weekend.
This is the third game against a ranked opponent for Beard and the Longhorns so far this season. And the previous two tries against ranked opposition didn’t go so well. It won’t help that this is the third time in three tries that Texas will be facing a ranked opponent on the road.
Eventually, Texas will get a ranked opponent at home at the Frank Erwin Center this season.
Texas is coming into this meeting with Iowa State off a win in the Red River Rivalry game on the hardwood over the Oklahoma Sooners by a convincing double-digit margin at home earlier this week. Sporting a record of 13-3 (3-1 Big 12), the Longhorns are still looking pretty good coming into this one.
Meanwhile, Iowa State is coming into this game with a record of 13-3 (1-3 Big 12) after a tough one-point loss on the road at the hands of the Kansas Jayhawks earlier this week. Don’t get too complacent with that Iowa State record in Big 12 play of 1-3, though. Iowa State has close losses to the Baylor Bears and Kansas, which is something that can happen to even some solidified top 25 teams.
Really the only major blemish this season for the Cyclones is a 13-point loss to Oklahoma last weekend.
Here’s a look into the betting odds, streaming/TV information, and the game prediction as the Longhorns get ready to take on the Cyclones on the road at Hilton Coliseum in Ames on Jan. 15, with tip-off time set for 1 p.m. CT.

Texas basketball vs. Iowa State prediction
Texas finally looks to have a shot to take down a ranked opponent that doesn’t have all that much momentum on their side. Maybe that change in narrative can be just what the Longhorns need to come up with a big win over a ranked opponent on the road for the first time this season.
This is what Beard and the Longhorns are missing this season. A true marquee win over a challenging opponent in an atmosphere like Hilton Coliseum.
It will be interesting to see how much playing time Beard gives standout junior center Tre Mitchell in this game. Mitchell returned out of the COVID-19 protocols for the Longhorns in the win over Oklahoma a few days back. But he only played in two minutes.
Mitchell and the senior guard duo of Marcus Carr and Courtney Ramey will once again be a major key to winning this game. Ramey’s play was very inconsistent in the first four games of the Big 12 slate this season. And Carr has defined inconsistency this season in Big 12 play for the Longhorns.
I would expect another big game from redshirt senior shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones this weekend too. Jones was the Longhorns’ best player by a good margin in the win over Oklahoma.
All in all, if Ramey and Mitchell can get the job done against Iowa State, it looks like Texas can get this win. This still feels like a spot where Texas is going to have a tough time finding traction in front of a rowdy crowd at Hilton Coliseum.
