Coming out of the holiday weekend, second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program had an interesting stretch over the last few days in the NCAA Transfer Portal to reflect upon. Texas did do well to land a commitment out of the transfer portal during the weekend from the former Alabama Crimson Tide junior tight end and blue-chip recruit Jahleel Billingsley.

Sark and the Longhorns staff hosted Billingsley on a visit to Austin over the weekend. Thus, it looks like Texas made quick work of the pursuit of Billingsley out of the portal after originally entering his name onto the open market less than 10 days ago.

Billingsley was also one of multiple former Crimson Tide players that the Longhorns started to pursue in the portal in the week that was. Texas does still have a couple of former Crimson Tide players as outstanding targets on the open market. But most are now committed somewhere new.

Landing a commitment from Billingsley was solid for the Longhorns, but there are other looming storylines out of the portal that are worth noting. Texas had a few visitors in the last week or so that are worth noting and some misses that could hurt later this offseason.

Granted, it’s hard to say definitively how some of the bigger misses out of the portal so far this offseason will stack up with the additions to the program when it’s all said and done.

Nonetheless, here’s a look into three of the biggest recent transfer portal misses for the Longhorns in January.
