3 new transfer portal entrants Texas should be pursuing
Javon Baker, WR
A more obvious fit with Sark and the Longhorns this offseason could come with the former Crimson Tide blue-chip recruit and sophomore wide receiver Javon Baker. A lot of the stronger parts of Baker’s game could fill what Texas needs at wideout right now. He is a good outside receiver that can go up and get those contested 50-50 balls.
Baker has strong hands and is solid on short and intermediate routes. His short and quick bursts allow him to get separation from opposing defensive backs on those types of routes.
Texas just landed another skill position weapon out of the transfer portal from a former member of the Crimson Tide in Billingsley. They are also pursuing another former Crimson Tide player out of the portal in linebacker Jaylen Moody, who was on the Forty Acres for a visit last weekend.
Baker makes a lot of sense for the Longhorns theoretically. He looks to have a bright future and was initially coached up by a lot of the coaches that are now on the Longhorns staff. Baker did start to show signs this fall of the explosive wideout he could eventually become.
He did still only come up with just over 100 receiving yards and one touchdown on seven catches. But Baker only has one drop under his belt and was actually one of the highest graded blockers among wide receivers in the last two seasons for the Crimson Tide. That could be an underrated strength he brings to the table for this Texas offense.
