Among the newer targets on the radar for the Texas football program out of the NCAA Transfer Portal in the last week or so is another former Alabama Crimson Tide player. Texas is going after former Alabama 6-foot-2 and 225-pound senior linebacker Jaylen Moody after he put his name in the transfer portal back on Jan. 13.

Second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff hosted Moody on a visit to Austin last weekend. And it looks like there is some real traction between Moody and the Longhorns staff in the days following his visit to Austin.

What currently looks to be the main competition for the Longhorns in terms of landing a commitment from Moody out of the transfer portal is the Mississippi State Bulldogs and head coach Mike Leach. It is also worth noting that the Arizona Wildcats are hosting Moody out a visit this week.

But there are some indicators emerging that the Longhorns could be the top school for Moody at the moment. It will be interesting to see if there is more building momentum in the days ahead for Texas in pursuit of a commitment from Moody out of the transfer portal this offseason.

There was an expert 247Sports transfer Crystal Ball Prediction entered for Moody to eventually commit to Texas over the likes of Mississippi State and Arizona. That lone Crystal Ball Prediction for Moody was entered on the morning of Jan. 19.

And the On3 recruiting prediction machine also currently predicts the Longhorns to land the commitment of Moody out of the portal.

Texas is clearly looking for help at the linebacker position this offseason. And Moody is someone that a lot of the current coaches on Texas’ staff are familiar with from some of their days under head coach Nick Saban with the Crimson Tide.
