As Texas basketball and new head coach Chris Beard are trying to prevent their two-game losing streak from moving to three this weekend, this team is preparing to take head coach Mike Boynton and the stingy Oklahoma State Cowboys at home. Texas hoops gets Oklahoma State at home at the Frank Erwin Center on the afternoon of Jan. 22.

In order for Beard and the Longhorns to stay in the mix near the top of the conference standings in the first half of the Big 12 slate, they need to top Boynton and the Pokes at home this weekend. Texas is moving in the wrong direction right now after losing two straight winnable games.

While there was no reason to panic for Longhorns fans after the loss to the No. 15 ranked Iowa State Cyclones last weekend, the same could not be said for the latest defeat. Texas getting upset at home at the Erwin Center at the hands of the Kansas State Wildcats earlier this week was a tough one to swallow for the fans.

Moreover, Texas is coming into this meeting with Oklahoma State sporting a record of 13-5 (3-3 Big 12) following the one-point loss to Kansas State. Texas has lost two straight in Big 12 play, and in three of the last four.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma State is coming into this matchup against the Longhorns with a record of 10-7 (3-3 Big 12) following their upset one-point win over the TCU Horned Frogs back on Jan. 19. It also was less than one week ago that Oklahoma State pulled off the major upset of the No. 1 Baylor Bears in Waco.

Here’s a look into the betting odds, TV/streaming information, and game prediction as Texas takes on Oklahoma State at the Erwin Center on Jan. 22, with tip-off time set for 1 p.m. CT.

Texas basketball vs. Oklahoma State prediction

It was surprising to see Beard and the Longhorns get such an impressive outing from the former senior transfer guard Marcus Carr in the upset loss to Kansas State. Carr actually came up with one of his best performances of the season, making it seem like a slam dunk for the Longhorns to beat the Wildcats.

Yet, if Texas can still get a solid outing from Carr in this meeting with Oklahoma State, this should be another winnable game for this squad.

While Carr really picked his game up in the loss to Kansas State, the Longhorns saw redshirt senior shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones come back down to earth. Jones was playing some of the best basketball of his career to date with Texas in the prior two games.

It will be important for the Longhorns to get better play out of Jones against the Pokes this time around.

Last but not least, it would be nice to see a bigger role for junior standout center Tre Mitchell to thrive against the Pokes. Mitchell was out for Texas in their first meeting with Oklahoma State this season. But he is looking for an uptick in minutes in the second of two meetings with the Pokes during the regular season.

dark. Next. 3 players struggling of late for Texas hoops

If Mitchell can come up with a big performance against the Pokes this weekend, I would expect it to be difficult for the Longhorns to get upset at the Erwin Center for the second straight time. Texas has a winnable game where they need to turn the corner in the midst of Big 12 play.

Final score prediction: Texas-65, Oklahoma State-55
