Colton Vasek, EDGE

A true position of need that the Longhorns are going to address in the 2023 class is defensive end/edge rusher. Texas is trying to upgrade this offseason at this position. That is evident in the fact that Texas looks to be pushing hard to land a commitment out of the NCAA Transfer Portal from the former two-time All-Big 12 TCU Horned Frogs senior edge rusher/defensive end Ochaun Mathis.

Texas is going to also try to build from the ground up in the defensive front while getting some immediate impact transfers this offseason. And one target to watch for the Longhorns 2023 class as they try to improve coming off the edge on the defensive side of the ball is the underrated three-star Westlake edge rusher/defensive end Colton Vasek.

At first glance, landing a commitment from Vasek looks to be a slam dunk for Sark and co-defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski. Vasek is a local product hailing out of Austin that fills a positional need right away on the Forty Acres.

But Vasek is getting a ton of attention on the recruiting trail right now. And that doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon.

In the last few days alone, Vasek picked up offers from the likes of the Texas A&M Aggies, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and Vanderbilt Commodores. He’s now got roughly 20 schools on his growing offer sheet. The Baylor Bears, USC Trojans, and TCU are also some schools to watch that look to figure into Vasek’s recruitment.

Texas is clearly going to prioritize getting more help off the edge. And Vasek will be a big piece to that puzzle depending on how his recruitment plays out in the next few months.
