Ashton Porter, DL

You have to like the direction that the Longhorns are headed in on the recruiting trail right now with the highly touted four-star Cy Ranch defensive lineman Ashton Porter. If a top school had to be named right now in the race to land a commitment from Porter, it would be difficult to say it’s anyone other than Texas.

Defensive line coach Bo Davis is doing an excellent job on the recruiting trail with Porter right now. There are multiple forecasts in place that project Porter’s commitment to eventually land with the Longhorns.

Junior Day was still an important marker for the Longhorns to keep making the right impression on Porter. While it looks like Texas sits in a great spot with Porter right now, there are still other top schools competing on the trail to win over his interest in the weeks and months ahead.

A report from Horns247 (paid content) indicates that Texas should essentially have plenty of confidence with where they sit with Porter following his Junior Day visit. He had a great time with the coaches and likes the bonds he’s built on the Forty Acres so far during his recruitment.

Texas hosted Porter on multiple visits in the last few months. That seems to be a great indication of where Texas sits with Porter at this point.

Three other schools to watch in pursuit of Porter on the recruiting trail are the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Baylor Bears, and Arkansas Razorbacks. Porter is reportedly looking to visit at least a couple of those other schools by the spring. If Texas can hold those competing schools off on the recruiting trail through the spring, they should feel very good about where they sit in respect to landing a commitment from Porter.
