Texas offers Baylor S commit Tyler Turner after Junior Day
A big weekend on the trail for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class saw second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff host a ton of key targets for their “Junior Elite Day”. Essentially the Junior Day of the early portion of the offseason for Texas got to see a number of newer names on the radar for this program’s 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes make their way to campus over the weekend.
And one of those key names that are now firmly on the radar of the Longhorns 2023 class is the Baylor Bears commit and San Antonio-Brennan safety Tyler Turner. This in-state 6-foot and 180-pound defensive back is a fast-rising prospect in the 2023 class.
It’s clear that the stock of Turner is rising. That is likely why Sark and the Longhorns staff hosted Turner during Junior Day last weekend and officially gave him a scholarship offer.
Texas is one of four notable programs that offered Turner since November. The other three are the Texas Tech Red Raiders, TCU Horned Frogs, and SMU Mustangs.
Turner announced that he received an offer from Texas on his Twitter timeline on the night of Jan. 22. This was one of the more notable offers that Texas sent out since the weekend. If Texas is going to offer a recent Baylor commit, it is going to come knowing that the coaching staff is prioritizing his recruitment in a big way.

And it looks like Turner was receptive to the attention and energy that the Longhorns staff gave him during his visit to Austin over the weekend, which resulted in an offer. He was active on social media during the weekend, especially since he received his Texas offer.
It was only back on Jan. 10 that Turner officially announced his commitment to Baylor. This is a big move for Texas to try and insert themselves among his top schools roughly two weeks after committing to an in-state Big 12 foe in the Bears.
Second-year Baylor cornerbacks coach Kevin Curtis led the charge for the Bears in order to land a commitment from Turner. But Texas is going to put some real effort on the recruiting trail to make their presence known with Turner.
Texas currently has one commit in their 2023 class in the four-star Arlington-Seguin cornerback Jamel Johnson. Turner is another defensive back worth adding to the big board for the Longhorns 2023 class after what looked to be a successful Junior Day last weekend.
