5-Star Texas QB target Arch Manning goes viral after in-game dunk
The top target for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class and second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian is clearly the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning. Texas had multiple visits to go see Manning in the last couple of months. And he’s made his way to the Forty Acres for multiple visits in the last calendar year.
Football looks to be the future for Manning. Yet, he is still generating conversation from his play on the football field and on the basketball court at this point.
But this is a time of year where Manning is putting more time into high school hoops it seems than football. Manning is a two-sport athlete for Isidore Newman High School as he plays both football and basketball.
Elite Texas football QB target Arch Manning has a highlighting in-game dunk for Newman
Newman is on a roll of late, having won three games in a row and seven of their last eight. And in their latest triumph, which came in a dominant 83-53 win over Parkview Baptist (Baton Rouge) on Jan. 28, Manning had one of the highlighting plays of his high school hoops career thus far.
Manning had a breakaway dunk that saw him chase down a ball and throw it down. This was an impressive play from Manning to throw this dunk down, and it came in front of a few SEC coaching staffs that were in attendance watching his game.
The very fact that a Manning can throw down a dunk like this in-game shows just how special Manning can be in terms of his physical traits. It’s hard to imagine Peyton and/or Eli Manning being able to throw down a breakaway dunk in-game like this when they were in high school.
Texas is going to continue to make Manning a top priority for their 2023 class. It will be important for Sark, quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee, and the Longhorns to get Manning to Austin for another visit during the spring.
