Coming off a nice week, new head coach Chris Beard and No. 23 ranked Texas basketball are getting set for what promises to be one of the most exhilarating games of the season on the night of Feb. 1. Around the halfway mark of the Big 12 slate, Texas will take on the No. 14 ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders and first-year head coach Mark Adams.

Texas Tech is obviously looking for revenge as they get to host their former head coach Beard in Lubbock for the first time since he left the Red Raiders to take the Longhorns job last spring. Beard bolted from Lubbock after spending five seasons as Texas Tech’s head coach.

This is going to be an environment in Lubbock where the Red Raiders’ faithful are looking for blood. There likely isn’t going to be any sort of warm welcome for Beard as he returns to Lubbock for the first time as the Longhorns head coach.

Texas Tech will reportedly even have Ric Flair emceeing the pre-game festivities at United Supermarkets Arena ahead of tip-off between the Longhorns and Red Raiders on Feb. 1. There are plenty of obvious signs showing just how electric this atmosphere will be in Lubbock early this week.

This could wind up being the most hostile atmosphere that the Longhorns will play in all season long. It is also likely to be the most electric and hostile atmosphere ever for Red Raiders basketball at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock.

Texas Tech fans are surely going to do everything they can to run the Longhorns out of town this week. Texas does have some momentum on their side heading into this game. But this obviously won’t be an easy win for them by any means.

Not only is Texas heading into an incredibly hostile atmosphere in Lubbock on Feb. 1, but Texas Tech also has a squad that is ready to contend for a Big 12 Championship this season. Texas Tech is already the favorite in this game. And Texas has not fared especially well on the road against ranked opponents so far this season.

Nonetheless, this would be a huge win for Texas if they can pull it out on the road against Texas Tech on Feb. 1. Texas is sporting a record of 16-5 (5-3 Big 12) following a big home win over the No. 18 Tennessee Volunteers last weekend. Tip-off time between Texas and Texas Tech is set for 8 p.m. CT in Lubbock on Feb. 1.
