Texas vs Texas Tech Odds: Line, Spread, Over/Under

Oh boy, do we ever have a good one tonight – Chris Beard is BACK! The former Tech coach returns to his old stomping ground for the first time as the 16-5 #23 Texas Longhorns take on the 16-5 #14 Texas Tech Red Raiders at 8:00 PM CST. WynnBET has the Longhorns as 4.5-point underdogs and +165 on the moneyline ($10 to win $16.50) while the over-under is 122.5.

Will Chris Beard defeat his former team or will the frenzied crowd be too much to handle?

Texas vs Texas Tech Prediction Tonight

These teams almost feel like carbon copies of each other. Both have a top-70 offense in the country in adjusted efficiency and a top-10 defense. Both force a lot of turnovers while struggling to protect the ball themselves. Both are top 50 in offensive rebounding rate. Both have excellent 3-point defenses but don’t shoot well. Both play at a snail’s pace with two of the slowest tempos in the nation. And both were coached by Chris Beard!

The Longhorns have turned up their defensive intensity of late, holding Tennessee, TCU, and Oklahoma State all to 51 points or fewer. They’ll need that defensive prowess against a Red Raiders squad that is a perfect 13-0 at home this season. Covering the spread in five straight home games, Tech has scored at least 75 points in every home game except a 72-60 win over Iowa State.

With that in mind, the total is where bettors need to look for value. Only one game in Lubbock has closed with a total below 130 (the aforementioned Iowa State game closed at 128.5 and went over) and I think oddsmakers are overreacting to a low score in the Texas-Tennessee matchup. The two teams combined to shoot just 13-28 from the free throw line and we can expect regression there.

The over is 4-0 in Texas games that close below 125 on the season and with two excellent offensive rebounding teams that draw a lot of fouls, I love that trend to continue.

Give me the over 122.5 (-110) as my best bet in what will be one of the most incredible atmospheres of the entire year.

Make your pick now on WynnBET.
