On National Signing Day 2022, one of the biggest names to watch around the college football landscape is a former key target of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class and elite five-star Cy Park linebacker Harold Perkins. Also a former Texas A&M Aggies commit, it still seems like the decision of Perkins is very much up in the air just a few hours ahead of his announcement.
Perkins once looked to have the Longhorns pretty high up among his group of top schools just a few months ago. But a lack of execution on the field last fall for then first-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns, especially on the defensive side of the ball, seemingly cost Texas any shot they had with Perkins ahead of National Signing Day.
At this point, it looks like Perkins is down to just three schools ahead of his NSD2 decision. And those three schools are the Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, and Texas A&M. Despite the Aggies and head coach Jimbo Fisher losing the commitment of Perkins last month, they still remain one of his top schools ahead of his Feb. 2 decision.
A lot of the momentum does look to be with LSU and new head coach Brian Kelly at the moment. LSU hosted Perkins on his latest official visit before his announcement on NSD2, which is obviously big for the Tigers.

There was also a point in time, though, where it looked like new head coach Billy Napier and the Gators were taking the lead with Perkins.
This type of turbulence and uncertainty surrounding the recruitment of Perkins is why there is so much anticipation building around his announcement this week. There is a lot at stake here in the SEC given the insane amount of talent that Perkins brings to the table.
But there are some leading indicators that LSU could be the top school for Perkins ahead of his Feb. 2 announcement. The most recent expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction did project Perkins’ commitment to go to LSU.
And the On3 recruiting prediction machine now favors LSU over Texas A&M and Florida to land the commitment of Perkins on Feb. 2. But this is definitely not a guaranteed thing at the moment for the Tigers by any means.
Perkins took his recruitment right down to the wire, and he could still surprise some people with his decision on NSD2.
Texas currently has signed 27 prospects in their 2022 class. And there is a highly anticipated decision in relation to the Longhorns on NSD2 with the elite five-star Arlington-Bowie interior offensive lineman Devon Campbell.
