Among the more notable former Texas football players that entered the NCAA Transfer Portal so far this offseason is the former elite five-star recruit and senior safety B.J. Foster. After a very rocky senior campaign at Texas under the new coaching staff, Foster was one of the less surprising entrants to the transfer portal in the last few months.

Foster originally put his name in the transfer portal back on Dec. 10. And it took a couple of months for him to officially find his next landing spot out of the portal it appears. Foster might’ve had his decision made a while back, but his transfer destination wasn’t really officially announced until Feb. 2 (also National Signing Day 2022).

The Sam Houston State Bearkats announced on their official football Twitter page that Foster was signed with them out of the transfer portal on Feb. 2. This was really the first indication of where Foster would be headed out of the portal this offseason.

There were some SEC schools that looked to be interested in Foster out of the portal. At one point, the Mississippi State Bulldogs looked to be a player for Foster. But the buzz for Foster to land with Mississippi State died down a good bit in the last few weeks.

Foster played for Texas for four seasons before putting his name in the portal roughly two months ago. During his four years playing for Texas, Foster registered 168 combined tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, five interceptions, 11 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.

While Texas did have some struggles at the safety position last season, Foster was one of the regular starters in the secondary. He came up with 46 combined tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, no sacks, three picks, and two pass breakups during the 2021 campaign.
