Evan Stewart, WR
By far the highest-rated former commit in the Longhorns 2022 class on this list is the elite five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart. But Texas wasn’t able to hold on to the commitment of Stewart for all that long. Stewart was one of the early commits in the Longhorns 2022 class for Sark last offseason.
Stewart originally committed to Texas on Feb. 18, 2021. But he would then de-commit from the Longhorns less than one month later, specifically on March 11.
He would take multiple visits following his de-commitment from Texas before eventually committing to the rival Texas A&M Aggies. Texas did have their shot with Stewart after he de-committed from the 2022 class in March. But they weren’t able to ultimately capitalize on that chance.
The recruitment of Stewart serves as a learning point for this coaching staff.
Texas will need to improve their product on the field for these top in-state prospects such as Stewart and five-star Cy Park linebacker Harold Perkins to get locked in with the Longhorns. That was what cost the Longhorns with these two for the 2022 recruiting cycle.
Moreover, Texas A&M would land a pretty abrupt commitment from Stewart on Nov. 29. And then, he would officially sign his National Letter of Intent with the Aggies on Dec. 16. Stewart is now signed and officially enrolled at Texas A&M this semester.
Stewart might be the biggest miss for Sark and the Longhorns staff in the 2022 class. Texas had a need to address at the wide receiver position, and they missed on their biggest in-state target here. This is one of the major driving factors as to why Sark replaced former Texas wide receivers coach Andre Coleman with Brennan Marion this offseason.
