One of the slam dunks in this Longhorns 2022 signing class to start right away in all likelihood is the three-star Regents School (TX) kicker Will Stone. Texas signed a kicker and a long-snapper in the 2022 class, indicating the commitment from the coaching staff to try and upgrade the special teams unit this year.

Yet, signing a kicker wound up being a necessary task for the Longhorns in the 2022 class given one major recent bit of news.

With former senior Texas kicker Cameron Dicker declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft last month, the Longhorns are now needing to find their next starter on special teams. That was actually a pretty big blow to the special teams unit for Texas in 2022. Most likely anticipated Dicker to return for his final year of eligibility next fall.

Stone is a kicker that hails out of the Regents School in the Longhorns backyard in Austin, TX. He ranks as the nation’s No. 4 kicker in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 6 kicker in the Top247.

Kohl’s Professional Camps also ranked him as the No. 9 kicker for the 2022 class. In their ranking system, Stone graded out as a five-star prospect at his position.

All in all, Stone will have big shoes to fill in this special teams unit given how consistent Dicker was for the Longhorns in the kicking game for the last few seasons. Dicker was a four-year starter, which is something that Stone can do if he can bring a similar level of consistency to the table starting in 2022.
