For the last couple of months, the hype has already started building around the new potential Texas football starting quarterback and former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman transfer Quinn Ewers. Texas and second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian are looking to rebuild the offense in 2022 around the former elite five-star recruit and presumed starting quarterback Ewers.

One particular area where the hype is building for Ewers and the Longhorns already in 2022, well ahead of the start of next season, is with a potential Heisman run for the freshman quarterback. Ewers is even getting some Heisman hype from a few different sources early this offseason.

An early list from RJ Young of FOX College Football saw him announce his “top 5 Heisman sleepers for next season” on Feb. 4. Ewers cracked the list in the No. 5 slot.

Ewers was one of two players out of the Big 12 that cracked the top 5 Heisman sleepers list for 2022 for Young. The other is the rising senior Kansas State Wildcats star running back Deuce Vaughn.

The other three players that made this list (in order from bottom to top) were the rising redshirt junior Arkansas Razorbacks quarterback K.J. Jefferson, redshirt senior Minnesota Golden Gophers running back Mohamed Ibrahim, and redshirt senior Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker.

Ewers is obviously the least proven and experienced of any of the players mentioned on Young’s early Heisman sleeper list for the 2022 season. But he also could have the highest ceiling statistically this coming season.

Having taken only a couple of snaps at the collegiate level from last season, there is still a lot to prove for Ewers come this fall. The good news for him is the fact that he’ll have a pretty solid supporting cast right away.

Texas brings back the likes of the rising junior star running back Bijan Robinson, sophomore stud wide receiver Xavier Worthy, and redshirt junior elusive wide receiver Jordan Whittington. The Longhorns also brought in the likes of former Wyoming Cowboys redshirt freshman breakthrough wideout Isaiah Neyor and some elite offensive linemen in the 2022 signing class. All of those pieces of the supporting cast should help to elevate the offense around Ewers this fall.
