Quinn Ewers, QB

There’s no doubt that the favorite to win the starting quarterback job right away for the Longhorns in spring ball will be the former elite five-star recruit and redshirt freshman Quinn Ewers. Texas is likely going to have first-team reps going to both Ewers and Card in spring drills, but I would still expect the latter of those two quarterbacks to get more favor heading into camp.

As the prized addition for Sark and the Longhorns out of the NCAA Transfer Portal so far this offseason, Ewers is expected to be one of the cornerstone pieces in what looks to be the most potent offense in the Big 12 this fall. Ewers definitely has the arm talent to be one of the elite quarterbacks in the entire country.

But there’s still a lot to learn for Ewers in this offense. And for a quarterback that only has a couple of game reps under his belt from his time with the Ohio State Buckeyes last year, this is a lot of pressure to experience right away with a program like Texas.

This is where having experienced voices on the staff, such as that of Sark and Cutcliffe, can really help ease the transition process for a young quarterback like Ewers. Knowing just how much knowledge Ewers has to digest before fall camp arrives, having as many resources as possible to help him get acclimated would be great.

There are multiple big-arm quarterbacks with a ton of talent that Cutcliffe successfully coached up in the past including the Mannings, Duke’s Daniel Jones, and Tennessee’s Tee Martin. That experience and ethos should help with Ewers as he looks to win the starting job and have a breakout 2022 campaign with the Longhorns.
