4 elite 2023 Texas recruits that are important to watch in February
Jaquaize Pettaway, WR
The wide receiver position is really starting to come into focus for the Longhorns 2023 class of late. Wide receiver will definitely be one of the biggest positions of need in the Longhorns 2023 class. The good news is that there’s a lot of in-state talent for new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion to go after for this recruiting cycle.
Texas will surely have their shot to rebound on the recruiting trail at wide receiver for this recruiting class. Sark and former wide receivers coach Andre Coleman whiffed with a number of their top prospects in the 2022 class. But the focus will be on changing that fortune in the 2023 class.
One of the top targets to watch for the Longhorns 2023 class at wide receiver is the touted four-star Langham Creek product, Jaquaize Pettaway.
It looks like the addition of Marion to the coaching staff will actually help a lot with Texas connecting with Pettaway on the recruiting trail throughout 2022. Pettaway already looks to have a good connection with Marion, which will do nothing but help the Longhorns case in this recruitment.
As is the case with most of the other top targets on this list of the Longhorns 2023 class, Pettaway is likely to have some combination of Texas A&M, LSU, and Oklahoma, among others, involved in his recruitment.
Two of the competitors that are really sticking out with Pettaway right now are Texas A&M and LSU. It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Pettaway’s recruitment came down to these three schools. But there is still a long way to go with this one.
The reason why it will be so crucial for Marion and the Longhorns to keep prioritizing Pettaway in February is the fact that this connection between them is still very new. Texas has an opportunity to capture some real momentum here with Pettaway. But they need to keep it through the start of spring visits.
