3 new 2023 Texas offers that are important to watch in February
Jayven Anderson, S/LB
One of the most versatile prospects that has an offer from the Longhorns 2023 class at the moment is the rising three-star North Shore hybrid safety/linebacker Jayven Anderson. As the lone prospect on this list that got an offer from Texas this month, Anderson is surely a name to watch for the Longhorns moving forward.
But it doesn’t take long watching Anderson’s film to realize how special he could be at the next level. He’s got the versatility and physical gifts to make an impact on multiple sides of the ball. Anderson could be more of a D’Shawn Jamison-type in terms of his playmaking ability in the secondary and on special teams.
He might not have the flat-out speed of Jamison, but he surely has an impressive elusiveness in the open field and can really make things happen with the ball in his hands in the return game.
Anderson is also an extremely physical open-field tackler whether he’s lining up as a true safety or in the box as a linebacker. This type of physicality and versatility is likely a lot of what drew the likes of Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate to give Anderson an offer in the first place.
Realistically, there are multiple different positions Anderson could play at the collegiate level. For the Texas defense, he could play at safety or middle linebacker in all likelihood. The coaching staff could be looking for him to fill a role kind of like senior linebacker and former converted safety DeMarvion Overshown.
That’s why he’s getting so much attention on the recruiting trail of late. The likes of the Longhorns, Ole Miss Rebels, Indiana Hoosiers, Colorado Buffaloes, and Arkansas Razorbacks, have all offered him since the turn of the calendar year.
