3 new transfer portal entrants to watch for Texas in February
Camar Wheaton, RB
If there is one position group that the Longhorns don’t really need help with this offseason, it is at running back. Texas looks to be set in the running back room in 2022 between the likes of rising junior star Bijan Robinson, senior Roschon Johnson, sophomore Jonathon Brooks, incoming freshman Jaydon Blue, redshirt junior Keilan Robinson, etc.
But there is another former Alabama Crimson Tide transfer that could be a nice future addition to the Longhorns running back room if new running backs coach Tashard Choice and Sarkisian so choose to add more depth here. And that is the former elite five-star recruit and Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex native Camar Wheaton.
While this former Texas running back recruiting target didn’t play a single snap for legendary head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide in 2021, he will surely be one of the most highly coveted transfers this offseason. Wheaton is someone that can make a long-term impact on almost any running back room around the country. That could be said for the Longhorns’ running back room too.
Even if Wheaton doesn’t land with the Longhorns, or even with another Big 12 program this offseason, his next destination is still worth noting. Wheaton has game-changing talent, he just needs to finally show that on the field in 2022 and beyond.
It would be interesting to see if the Longhorns do decide to pursue Wheaton out of the transfer portal this offseason.
