Less than two full weeks after the conclusion of National Signing Day 2022, the 2024 Texas football recruiting class is actually off to a better start than the 2023 class. That is thanks to an explosive start for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff on the recruiting trail for the 2024 class building a foundation in the defensive backfield.

Sark and the Longhorns staff have now landed two blue-chip commitments in the 2024 class after getting a pledge out of the rising four-star Daingerfield (TX) defensive back/athlete Aeryn Hampton. This versatile athlete and former Baylor Bears commit announced his pledge to the Longhorns 2024 class on the morning of Feb. 14.

Hampton became the second commitment to start off the Longhorns 2024 class in the span of fewer than three months. The other commit in the Longhorns 2024 class at the moment is the four-star Aledo cornerback Jaden Allen.

Texas is now one of just three FBS programs in the entire country with a double-digit number of commitments in their 2024 class. The other two are the Iowa Hawkeyes and Florida State Seminoles.

Moreover, this is a great start for the Longhorns to get off to for the 2024 class. Hopefully, this impact will soon trickle over to the 2023 class, which still has just one commit in the mix right now.

But it might be a good while before the Longhorns 2024 class gets their next commitment. It’s hard to find where that next commit for 2024 could come from.

Nonetheless, here are a few names to watch among those targets of the Longhorns 2024 class that could be the next to commit after Hampton.
