Activity on the trail for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class has stayed rather silent of late. Outside of a big visit weekend during the Junior Elite Day last month, Texas hasn’t had much activity to speak of on the recruiting trail for the 2023 class.

In fact, second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff had more activity on the recruiting trail for the 2024 class compared to 2023 for the last couple of months. At the moment, Texas holds just one commitment in the 2023 class. Meanwhile, Texas is now up to two commits in the 2024 class after landing a pledge from the rising four-star Daingerfield (TX) athlete Aeryn Hampton early this week.

Which 5-Star targets look to have Texas football as a top contender in February?

Texas does still hold a good bit of momentum on the recruiting trail, which could eventually spill over to the 2023 class. Sark and the Longhorns staff wrapped up the 2022 recruiting cycle on a high note on National Signing Day earlier this month. Texas was able to sign two five-star prospects in the 2022 class between offensive linemen Kelvin Banks and Devon Campbell.

Now, Texas is looking to build on some of that momentum in the 2023 class. Results are likely soon to come for the Longhorns in this class once the dead period lifts and spring visits arrive. For now, it is important to know which elite prospects to watch that are targets of the Longhorns 2023 class that could be visiting come springtime.

Here’s a look at three elite 2023 recruits that the Longhorns are contending for that are important to watch in February.
