Another former Ohio State blue-chip recruit that the Longhorns got out of the transfer portal early this offseason is the freshman quarterback and former Texas commit Quinn Ewers. Texas needed to find help at the quarterback position in 2022. And that came very early on in the offseason with Ewers leaving Columbus for Austin.

Without a doubt, Ewers will be the biggest transfer portal addition of the offseason for the Longhorns. Sark and the Longhorns staff were looking to get their face of the program in terms of a quality starting quarterback. And that’s exactly what arrived for the Longhorns with Ewers landing in Austin out of the portal a couple of months ago.

The early indications of Ewers’ presence in the quarterback room tend to point to him bringing a positive energy to the table. There were some concerns before he arrived on campus that there could be some friction in the quarterback room with Ewers coming into the mix this year.

But it seems like there will be some healthy competition at the quarterback position right from the get-go in spring ball. Texas still has rising junior quarterback Hudson Card hanging around on the team even after the transfer of former starting redshirt junior Casey Thompson earlier in the offseason.

From here on out, it would be great to continue to see Ewers integrating himself well with the quarterback room and in workouts as he has thus far. That would be a great way to get momentum rolling in his direction ahead of the start of the 2022 season.
