3 transfer portal targets that are now on Texas’ radar
Lorenzo McCaskill, LB
For a good while there, it looked like one of the former transfer portal targets for the Longhorns that fell off the radar for this coaching staff was the former Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns senior linebacker Lorenzo McCaskill. The three-year starter for Louisiana put his name in the transfer portal back on Jan. 14.
McCaskill was part of that big second wave of transfer portal entrants in the week following the conclusion of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game last month. But he has yet to find his next landing spot out of the portal thus far.
According to a report from Orangebloods this week (paid content), McCaskill is still keeping his options open out of the portal.
Although, it does look like McCaskill is still interested in taking a visit with the Longhorns in the spring. That is important to note with Texas looking to get multiple defensive targets out of the portal on campus during spring ball in all likelihood.
Given an apparent lack of linebacker depth in the transfer portal at the moment, McCaskill would be one of the best targets at the position for the Longhorns to pursue.
Once again, this looks like it will follow the narrative of whether Texas likes what they can get in McCaskill or if they want to take a more patient approach to see what else emerges at linebacker in the portal in the spring. For the time being, though, McCaskill appears to still be interested in Texas. And that interest could reverberate if Texas is prioritizing help out of the portal at linebacker in the spring.
