3 best transfer landing spots for former Texas P Ryan Bujcevski
San Diego State
A situation that is somewhat similar to that of UMass, but with a more high-profile departure at the punter position lies with the San Diego State Aztecs in the Mountain West Conference. San Diego State is losing what was potentially the best punter/kicker hybrid in the entire country in the last two seasons with junior Matt Araiza joining Dicker in the 2022 NFL Draft class.
There could still be some options on the table for the Aztecs as they look to find any sort of replacement for the giant shoes that Araiza leaves with their special teams unit. But this is obviously a gaping hole they now have kicking and punting in 2022 and beyond. Araiza did still have a few years of eligibility remaining at the collegiate level before declaring for the NFL Draft this year.
Araiza did it all for the Aztecs in the last few seasons. He averaged more than 51 yards per punt in a really impressive 2021 campaign. That came after he averaged nearly 50 yards per punt during his first year assuming those duties during the 2020 season.
For his efforts last season, Araiza would win the Ray Guy Award and become a consensus First-Team All-American. That is a lot to replace for the Aztecs.
And with no clear solution sticking out for San Diego State on the special teams unit among the punters and/or kickers they currently have on the roster to replace Araiza, it looks like Bujcevski could be a potential add for them that makes sense. San Diego State would really make sense for all parties involved if Bujcevski were to commit to the Aztecs out of the portal this offseason.
