Texas P Ryan Bujcevski enters transfer portal, leaves S/T short-handed
In a rather surprising move concerning the Texas football program on the afternoon of Feb. 21 that was preceded bit a good bit of drama and confusion, rising senior punter Ryan Bujcevski had his name entered in the NCAA Transfer Portal. What caused the drama and confusion before it was officially reported by a few sources (including Inside Texas on Twitter) was the fact that it wasn’t Bujecvski’s name that originally showed up among Texas punters in the transfer portal.
It was reportedly freshman punter Isaac Pearson that originally had his name show up in the transfer portal by mistake on the morning of Feb. 21. But that situation would be ironed out and corrected to show Bujcevski’s name in the portal.
This now makes it both the starting kicker and punter from Texas’ special teams unit entering last season that could be gone in 2022. Senior kicker Cameron Dicker elected to declare for the 2022 NFL Draft, passing up what would be one more year of eligibility to play for Texas.
Granted, it was also Dicker that assumed the punting duties throughout all of last season after originally taking over for Bujcevski in the midst of the 2020 campaign.
Texas football left with some inexperience on special teams after Ryan Bujcevski enters the portal
And now, Bujcevski has his name in the transfer portal after battling some injury issues in the last couple of years.
Bujcevski hasn’t punted in any game action for the Longhorns since the Nov. 11, 2020, home win over the West Virginia Mountaineers. He tore his ACL back in 2020 and didn’t make it back to assume the punting duties since that point in time.
Texas is left with just one punter now on the roster following this transfer news for Bujcevski. Freshman punter Isaac Pearson is now the lone remaining punter on the roster for the Longhorns roughly one month ahead of the start of spring ball.
During his three years of punting for Texas, Bujcevski got off 134 punts for an average of 41.5 yards. His punting efficiency improved each year on the Forty Acres to a peak of 43.3 yards per punt through seven games in 2020.
But he never matched some of the punting numbers that Dicker posted last season for the Longhorns. After assuming the punting duties two seasons ago, Dicker averaged 46.3 yards per punt on 55 attempts since midway through the 2020 campaign.
That included Dicker averaging nearly 47 yards per punt last fall.
Texas will likely leave the punting duties to Pearson right away in 2022. That would make sense given the fact that he was the lone punter signed in the last three recruiting classes for the Longhorns.
