It’s clear by now that the top target for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class and second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian is the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning. Texas has made Manning their top priority in the 2023 class, and it’s easy to see why.

If Sark, quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee, and the Longhorns were able to reel in a commitment from Manning in their 2023 class, that would go a long way to really elevating the program to new heights in the years to come. Yet, Texas still has a long way to go in this recruitment as it looks like Manning could be waiting to announce his decision until late in the fall.

At this point of his recruitment, it looks like there are five schools that are hanging around. Those five likely include the Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Ole Miss Rebels, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Texas.

But it looks like there is a recent coaching staff change with one of the top schools for Manning that could have some type of an impact on his recruitment moving forward. The former Ole Miss head coach and Georgia offensive line coach Matt Luke is reportedly leaving his role with the Dawgs this offseason.

How does the departure of Matt Luke at UGA impact Texas football with 5-Star QB Arch Manning?

This is a very notable development for the Dawgs that could also have an impact on each of the top schools in the race to land a commitment from Manning. Luke was one of the top recruiters that helped Georgia get to where they are now with Manning. That would lead one to think that this departure would hurt Georgia’s chances with the elite quarterback.

But a report from Inside Texas over the holiday weekend (part of the On3 Network, paid content) indicates that this might not be the case after all. This IT report does mention the obvious fact that losing Luke won’t help the Dawgs in all likelihood with the Manning camp. But it doesn’t sound like it will set them back all that much.

From Texas’ perspective, anything that can help with the Manning sweepstakes is something to note. After thinking this through, I wouldn’t really expect this to have too much of an impact, in the end, come decision time for Manning.

There should be some notable developments in the recruitment of Manning come spring visit season. It looks like Texas will be on the docket to get a visit from Manning in the spring. That’s really when it will be time to watch for any updates from the Louisiana native.

Texas currently has one commitment in their 2023 class ahead of spring, which came back in November with four-star Arlington-Seguin defensive back Jamel Johnson. It looks like there will be more action to come in the spring after a quiet winter in terms of news on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns 2023 class.
