Texas baseball looks to stay hot vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
No. 1 ranked Texas baseball and head coach David Pierce came out of the gates hot last weekend in their first series of the regular season schedule. Texas downed the Rice Owls at home at Disch-Falk Field over the holiday weekend in their first series of the regular season in a three-game sweep.
Pierce and the Longhorns saw the bats come alive to back some solid efforts on the mound to top Rice by a whopping combined score of 36-3. It took more than 10 innings for the Owls to even get their first run of this weekend series.
After going 3-0 through their first series of the regular season slate, the Longhorns will now be hitting the road to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. This will be the first time this season that the Longhorns have a game away from the friendly confines of the Disch.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi got off to a decent start after beating UT-Arlington two games to one in their first series of the regular season. Yet, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi did fall short to UT-Arlington in their last game, in a 9-7 loss on Feb. 20.
Andre Duplantier II gets the call for No. 1 Texas baseball against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 22
Texas will have the 6-foot-2 redshirt freshman right-hander Andre Duplantier II on the mound in the first of the two meetings in this road weekday series with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. This will be the first start of the season, and the second appearance in total, for Duplantier against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Duplantier did come on in relief for the Longhorns in one inning in the Feb. 19 win over Rice. He struck out two batters and didn’t give up any hits in one perfect inning on the mound in that game.
This will also be the 10th appearance of Duplantier’s career dating back to the 2020 season. He appeared in eight games back during the 2020 season, prior to the COVID-19 induced early end to the campaign.
Junior Hayden Thomas will get the call for the Islanders on the mound in the first game in this series. Thomas will be making his first appearance of the season. He boasts a career record of 7-4 dating back to the 2019 season, with a 4.37 earned run average, 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings, and 4.5 walks.
Texas brings their spotless record of 3-0 into this first of two meetings with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on the road at Whataburger Field on Feb. 22. First pitch in this series opener is set for 6:35 p.m. CT.
