It looks like second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2023 Texas football recruiting class will be in for a big visit season in the spring. Texas had a pretty quiet period on the recruiting trail so far during the winter months. But that is likely to change with the dead period soon lifting and visits resuming around the college football recruiting landscape.

There is an emerging name to watch too in relation to Sark, new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion, and the Longhorns 2023 class that could be visiting campus in the spring. The elite five-star Gulliver Prep (FL) wide receiver Jalen Brown is starting to find more traction with Marion and the Longhorns.

And it looks like that should only continue heading into spring.

According to a report from Horns247 on Feb. 22 (paid content), Texas is getting a visit on the books with Brown for the spring, despite that likely being a very busy period of the year for the Florida product. The efforts from Marion on the recruiting trail of late could be paying off with more attention from Brown this offseason.

Texas football reportedly looking to lock in a visit this spring with 5-Star WR Jalen Brown

Texas looked to be falling behind some of Brown’s top schools as recently as last fall when Andre Coleman was still the wide receivers coach. But Marion’s addition to the coaching staff looks to have rejuvenated the energy on the recruiting trail that the Longhorns are finding with Brown.

Texas originally offered Brown back in June 2021. But Texas never really got a visit locked in that would actually move the needle with the elite wideout.

There is one other relevant connection worth mentioning as it pertains to Texas recruiting Brown. Former Texas starting quarterback Casey Thompson reportedly worked out with Brown one offseason while he was still a member of the Longhorns.

It sounds like that previous connection between Thompson and the Longhorns and Brown could help Texas’ case in this recruitment. That comes despite Thompson transferring from Texas to Nebraska earlier this offseason.

Moreover, some of the other schools to watch at the moment in the battle to land a commitment from Brown are the Miami Hurricanes, Florida State Seminoles, Texas A&M Aggies, Oklahoma Sooners, and LSU Tigers. The Florida Gators, Arkansas Razorbacks, and Michigan Wolverines could also be schools to watch if they make a big push with Brown soon.

Brown is one of the highest-rated wide receiver targets that currently holds an offer from the Longhorns 2023 class. He ranks as the nation’s No. 29 2023 high school prospect, No. 4 wide receiver, and No. 9 prospect out of Florida (247Sports Composite).
