Looking to respond from a tough six-point loss at home last weekend to head coach Mark Adams and the Texas Tech Red Raiders, No. 20 ranked Texas basketball and head coach Chris Beard have another big home game on tap on Feb. 23. Texas will host head coach Jamie Dixon and the TCU Horned Frogs on Feb. 23 in the second of two meetings between these two teams this season.

The first meeting between Texas and TCU this season resulted in a victory for the Longhorns by the convincing final score of 73-50 back on Jan. 25 in Fort Worth.

Beard and the Longhorns are coming off that aforementioned tough 61-55 loss at home at the Frank Erwin Center last weekend to Texas Tech. That loss to the Red Raiders moved Texas’ record on the season so far to 19-8 (8-6 Big 12).

Meanwhile, TCU is coming off a convincing 10-point road win over the West Virginia Mountaineers at home in Fort Worth on Feb. 21. That win over West Virginia helped TCU snap a three-game losing streak. They come into this matchup against the Longhorns with a record of 17-8 (6-7 Big 12).

Here’s a look at the betting odds, TV/streaming information, and game prediction as Texas gets ready to host TCU at the Erwin Center in Austin on Feb. 23, with tip-off time set for 6:00 p.m. CT.

Texas basketball vs. TCU prediction

Texas is a pretty heavy favorite in this game, despite the absence of junior big man Tre Mitchell for the third game in a row. Mitchell will miss another game for Beard and the Longhorns due to “personal reasons”. And it looks like there isn’t a set timetable for his return to the lineup at the moment.

With Mitchell out, it will be up to the likes of senior forwards Timmy Allen and Christian Bishop to pick up the pace for Texas in the frontcourt. One of the hottest players of late for the Horned Frogs is junior forward Emanuel Miller, who has scored in double figures in each of the last four games. He’s also scored at least 13 points in six of the last seven games.

Another key cog for the Longhorns against the Horned Frogs will be the play of senior guard Marcus Carr. It really looked like Carr was turning a corner for good for the Longhorns until he had a rather forgettable game against Texas Tech.

Carr had his worst game of the Big 12 slate so far, posting no points and four turnovers on 0-of-6 shooting from the field against the Red Raiders last weekend.

If Carr can come up with a strong response against the Horned Frogs, that should go a long way to helping Texas come out on top.

Texas has played well at home this season. The loss to Texas Tech last weekend looked to be an exception to that. One of the most dominant games for the Longhorns in Big 12 play thus far was also their road win last month over TCU. This is one that Texas should come out on top.

Final score prediction: Texas-76, TCU-65
